InfoElectro Fall / Automne 2017
Fall 2017 InfoElectro 17 E arlier this year, Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) announced the launch of its Power to Build program in support of Habitat for Humanity Canada. There are many ways EFC members can become involved – and many are already generous supporters of this program, and Habitat Canada’s work. Habitat Canada brings communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. 56 local Habitats across Canada, along with 70,000 volunteers, help build homes for families in need of a decent and affordable place to live. But the benefits of a Habitat home reach far beyond the four walls that volunteers and families raise together. Through reduced reliance on social housing and food banks, better education and employment outcomes, and improved health, every Habitat home built helps create $175,000 worth of benefits for the local community. While Habitat Canada is always in need of product and cash donations to help build more homes, EFC members can also support Habitat Canada’s work through its Team Build Program. Habitat Canada’s team building opportunities offer organizations a chance to invest in their employees while making a real difference in the lives of low-income working families. Employees of all skill levels — beginner to professional — roll up their sleeves to build alongside future Habitat homeowners and other volunteers. EFC members such as Siemens Canada, Schneider Electric, and STANDARD have been sending employees to participate in Team Build Days across Canada for a number of years. “Habitat Canada’s build days allow STANDARD employees to work together in a different environment, and these teams learn new skills and connect in a different way that isn’t possible at the office. We leave build sites with a sense of accomplishment and we are proud to be helping Canadian families that are in need of a decent place to live,” says Stephanie Santini, STANDARD’s Digital Marketing and Communications Manager. Partnering with a relevant and worthy cause not only has a positive impact on staff, it also provides your company with the opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to corporate social responsibility, which can help enhance your company’s image in the eyes of customers. In fact, research shows that 79 per cent of consumers are willing to switch brands to support organizations they care about (2012 Abacus Data). Whether through a donation of product, a cash donation or sponsoring a TeamBuild day for your organization, EFC members have the opportunity to showcase how they are helping their community through their support of Habitat for Humanity Canada. Habitat Canada is thrilled to be working with EFC and looks forward to welcoming newmembers as partners in the future, who will help make a long-lasting, positive impact on more families in their communities through decent and affordable housing.
